Lawrence Burton, 73, of Boston, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, on March 20, 1951, to Opal Back Burton and James Luther “Jocko” Burton. Lawrence will be remembered for his kindness, humor, love of gathering with those he held dear, his incredible work ethic, his fondness of the beach, and, most of all, for his love for his family, particularly his wife and children. Along with his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Burton, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Joy Lafawn Guthrie Burton; his four children, Karen Burton Pike (Chris), Michael Burton (Tabatha Carney), Jimmy Burton (Leslie), and Kimberly Burton (Colm McGuckian); his stepson, Zachary Underwood; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, Alvin Burton (Elizabeth “Cissy”); his sister-in-law, Mary Burton; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, May 10, from 3-8 pm, and Saturday, May 11, from 8-10 am at the Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home, New Haven with a funeral service to be held there Saturday at 10 am. Private burial will be at Marshall Cemetery with a bereavement dinner to be held at Rolling Fork Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mill Creek Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
