Joseph Thurman Metcalfe, 78 Culvertown, died Sat. March 10, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Nelson County to the late James Willis Ballard Metcalfe, and Mary Leona Bryan. Thurman was a Catholic by faith, and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Culvertown, he was a retired employee of the Bellsouth Telephone Company, after 33 years of service, and was a member of the Bellsouth Pioneers. He was a Veteran with the United States Navy. Joseph Thurman Metcalfe was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty Jean Humphrey Metcalfe. He is survived by his, (3) Sons, Carl Steven “Steve” ( Eunice) , Eminence Ky, Darrell Vincent (Fiance`, Marty), Louisville KY, Christopher Stuart ”Chris” ( Julie), Bardstown, KY. and (1) daughter, Patricia (Jeff ) Thompson, Lebanon KY. (11) Grandchildren, (2) Brothers; Kenneth (Janice) Metcalfe, Harold (Edna Rose) Metcalfe; (2) sisters Norma Lou Ball Ballard, and Verna (Billy) Greenwell. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral Service for Joseph Thurman Metcalfe will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am, March 13, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Culvertown with Rev. Troy Overton officiating. Burial will be in the Floydsburg Cemetery “Duncan Memorial” near Crestwood, Kentucky. Visitation for Joseph Thurman Metcalfe will begin Monday 3:00 pm till 8 pm, with a prayer service at 6:00 pm by, and again on Tuesday 8 am till 10:30 am at the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven.
