John Bryan Sr. Obituary

John Donald “Johny” Bryan Sr., age 84, of New Haven passed away peacefully at his home on February 14, 2014 He was a Catholic by faith, and a member of the St. Catherine Catholic Church. He was a US Army Veteran, in the Military Police serving in the Korean War. He retired from the Nelson County Board of Education, working at the New Haven Public School as a Janitor. He worked for the US Postal Service for 32 years. He graciously gave of his time to the New Haven Optimist Ball Park alongside his wife Evelyn they could be found in the concession stand most any time. He is preceded in Death by his Wife, Elizabeth Evelyn Gant Bryan, a Grand Daughter, Megan Elizabeth Ritchie, His parents, Joseph Emmanuel and Emma Elizabeth Mattingly Bryan; (1) sister, Elizabeth Smith, (4) brothers; Felix “Teddy Bear” Bryan, Logue Bryan, Charlie Bryan, Gerald Bryan. He is survived by his (4) children; John Bryan (Carole), Annie Bryan, Mary Bryan and Jackie Ritchie (Scott); (4) grandchildren Joshua Bryan, Abby Ritchie, Kayla Bryan and Taylor Bryan, and his twin Brother, James R. “Jimmy” Bryan (Tootie). A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Tuesday February 18 at the St. Catherine Catholic Church in New Haven with Rev. Ken Fortener presiding. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Cemetery with the Marion County Honor Guard providing the Military Honors. Visitation will take place on Monday 2-8 PM, with a prayer service at 6 PM and on Tuesday 8 AM – 9:30 AM at the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home.
