Harold Walsh Obituary

Harold V. Walsh, Colonel USAF (Retired), 85, of Howardstown, Kentucky, formerly of Ventnor, NJ, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014. Hal was born in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Rosemary (O'Neill) and Harold Walsh, Sr. He was preceded in death by his sister Rosemary Stephens, son Brian, and granddaughter Ellen Marie. Hal is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia (Flavin) Walsh and eight children: Kevin Walsh (Ellen), Jamie Walsh, Sean Walsh (Christine), Rosemary Walsh, Padraic Walsh (Deidre), Hal Walsh (Suzanne), Kathleen Walsh, and Tricia Rafter (Tom). He is survived by his grandchildren: Erin, Colleen, and Kelli Walsh; Sean and Brian Walsh; Sean Kathleen and Alexandra Curran; Rachel Walsh; Ryan Schnarre; and Megan, Erin, and Tommy Rafter. He is also survived by his sister Ruthann Salinger (Artie) and his brother David Walsh (Marilyn).    Hal was a 1950 graduate of the US Naval Academy, a career USAF fighter pilot, and a Korean War veteran with over 100 combat missions. He retired as commander of the 177th Fighter Interceptor Group of the NJ Air National Guard. Hal was devoted to his Catholic faith and was the epitome of a true Christian steward, receiving God's gifts gratefully, cultivating them responsibly, and sharing them lovingly in justice with others. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Hal's memory can be made to Food For The Poor (foodforthepoor.org).  Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Thursday, May 29, 2014, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Harry Witzke's Family Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, MD.  Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, May 30, 2014, 12:30 pm at St. Louis Catholic Church, 12500 Clarksville Pike/Route 108, Clarksville, MD. A reception will be held at the parish social hall followed by interment at St. Louis Church Cemetery, Ten Oaks Road, Clarksville, MD.
