Mary Ruth Ball Greenwell

Mary Ruth Ball Greenwell  of Culvertown, age 91 passed away peacefully at her residence early Saturday morning, May 10, 2014.

 She was born in Culvertown on July 24, 1922, besides some of her childhood spent at a family farm in Fairfield, and stints that her and her husband Woody took to Harlingen Texas, she called Culvertown her home. A Catholic by Faith and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a founder and member of the Immaculate Conception Alter Society, a member and one of the first organizers of the Culvertown Bereavement committee, a former member of Culvertown Senior Citizens, and co-founder of the Church Bingo. A member for 44 years and the First President of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 121 in Bardstown. 

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Sophia Hall Ball, her husband, Woodrow Greenwell, (2) sons, Lincoln and Kevin Greenwell, and a grandson, Jeremy McCoy, and all of her siblings, Helen Rogers, Bertel, Coahran, Link, Leo, Wetzel and Francis Jr. Ball and (2) son in laws, Jimmy Sweeney and PR Seward. 

She is survived by her (15) children; Leora and Denny Doyle, Birch Run MI, Louise and Bobby Brussell, Culvertown KY, Kenny and Linda Greenwell, Louisville KY, Carolyn and Sonny Greenwell, New Haven KY, Mary Ellen an Butch McCoy, New Haven KY, Warren and LeAnn Greenwell, Gilbert AZ, Dwight and Pat Greenwell, New Haven KY, Beverly and Buddy Keith, Culvertown KY, Hazel Greenwell Seward, New Haven KY, Eric and Elaine Greenwell, Bardstown KY, Tammi and David Nalley, New Haven KY, LaDonna and Steve Barbour, Midland TX, Coletta Greenwell Akin, New Haven KY, Mary Beth and Timmy Higdon, Culvertown, KY, Dick and Melissa Greenwell, Bardstown KY, (41) grandchildren, (43) great grandchildren and (1) great great grandchild. Her sister and brother in laws, Billy and Verna Greenwell, Irene Greenwell and Norma Lou Ball Ballard. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. 

 A Funeral Mass for Mary Ruth Ball Greenwell will be held on Tuesday, 11 am, May 13, 2014 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Culvertown, with the Rev. Troy Overton officiating. Burial will be in the St. Thomas Church Cemetery in Bardstown Kentucky. 

Visitation will be on Monday May 12, 2014 from 12 pm-8 pm with a Rosary being said at 12:00 noon, an American Legion Auxiliary service at 6:30 and a Catholic Prayer service at 7 pm, and visitation will resume on Tuesday morning from 8–10:30 am at the Joseph L Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven. 

Active Pallbearers for Ruth Greenwell will be her grandsons, Michael Doyle, Paul Brussell, Charles Greenwell, Darren Greenwell, Chad Greenwell, Chris Sweeny, Blake Greenwell and Chris Nalley.

The placing of the Pall will be done by her granddaughters, Cheryl Metcalf, Leslie Greenwell, Airy Ann Tatum, Amy McCoy, Rita Greenwell, Jennifer Brown. The rest of the grandchildren will participate as honorary pallbearers. 

Any memorial contributions may be made to the Culvertown Bereavement Room, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 121, or Hospice of Nelson County.
